This vision of desolation is a coral cemetery. Due to pollution, climate change, and human activity, most coral reefs are dying. Globally, this represents approximately 29% of seagrass meadows, 35% of mangrove forests, and 50% of coral reefs that have disappeared since the last century.

Coral reefs are often referred to as the "tropical forests of the sea" due to their incredible biological diversity. They host approximately 25% of all marine species, providing habitat, food, and protection to a variety of marine organisms.
Coastal Protection
Coral reefs and their complex structure play a protective role against coastal impacts from waves, storms, and predators. They dissipate wave energy, reduce erosion, and protect coastal ecosystems.
CO2 Reduction
Coral reefs play a role in the carbon cycle by absorbing carbon dioxide during the formation of their calcium carbonate skeleton, thus contributing to reducing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere.
